4 Days/ 3 Nights – Chimpanzee Trekking In Kibale National Park

 A 4 days stay in Kibale Forest with one of man’s closest cousins is among the most thrilling and memorable experience for so many visitors that are hosted in Uganda. Kibale forest is the best place to track chimpanzees in the world alongside other primates like the colobus monkeys that find a home in the forest canopy. Kibale Forest is also among the best birding spot in Uganda with a variety of bird species that can even be sighted from your accommodation verandah. The forest is also a home to other wildlife like forest elephants, leopards, warthogs, hippos and giant forest pigs among others.

Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe International airport, meet your driver and transfer to your accommodation.

Meet your driver who will be waiting for you at the Airport exit lounge, he will have your name printed on the Airport signage to transfer you to accommodation for an overnight.
Afternoon at leisure. Optional activities available like Mabamba visit, Ngamba sanctuary visit, sunset cruise.

Luxury – Hotel No.5

Guinea Fowl Guest House named after the rare bird species of the Numididae bird family that can only be found in Africa and among the birds that have a long life span, they are referred to as the oldest of the gallinaceous birds.  The Guest House has a variety of room types to offer a cozy and comfortable stay offering additional services like laundry, luggage storage and a secure parking plus the special massage treatment.

Day 2: Drive to Kibale National park. Afternoon at leisure, relax at the Lodge

Meet your guide and drive to Kibale Forest, drive time is 6-7 hours. 
Kibale forest national park is located in the western side of Uganda covering a total surface area of 766 square kilometres and the entire landscape is green, full of lush vegetation of trees, shrubs, ferns, grass among others and this has created a natural home for variety of wildlife like 13 primate species including chimpanzees, vervet, red-tailed, L’Hoest’s, blue monkeys, grey-cheeked manabey, red colobus, black and white colobus, olive baboon, and over 335 bird species like the ducky crimson wing, black capped Apalis, blue headed sunbird, red faced woodland warber and purple breasted sunbird among others and over 60 other kinds of mammals besides the primates like the bush pigs, elephants, duikers among others.
Afternoon at leisure. Optional activities include: Crater walk visit, village walk, boat cruise on crater lakes among others.

Luxury – Primate Lodge
Primate Lodge is found at the edge of Kibale Forest with 10 minutes’ walk from the UWA offices.
The lodge has 10 cottages with six doubles / four twins inclusive of 1 honey moon cottage and all the rooms have similar amenities except a bathtub and a fire place that is only found in the honey moon cottages. All rooms have en suite facilities and safes
Enjoy the spa services inclusive of a massage after your trek and all kinds of drinks and delicious meals from the bar and restaurant.
There is no Wi-Fi in the cottages but you can freely access it from the main area lounge.
 
Mid-range – Turaco Lodge
Enjoy a unique experience in the forest canopy at Turaco Treetops with great views of the snowcapped Rwenzori Mountains. Turaco Treetops named after the popular Great Blue Turaco bird is just at the edge of the green lush of vegetation that is the famous home to man’s shy cousins: the chimpanzees and plenty of other bird and monkey species like the black and white colobus. Enjoy a cozy stay in the semi luxury rooms with very comfortable beds with running water all day for a shower and the hospitality from the staff makes your stay made amazing.
Budget – Kibale forest camp
Kibale forest camp has 12 self-contained cottages and four lazy camp rooms and the lodge can be traced after a 15 minutes’ drive from the Park’s gate and the headquarters. The lodge is surrounded by greenery with high chances of sighting the black and white Columbus from your room veranda or at the lounge.

Day 3: Morning chimpanzee trekking. Lunch at Tinka’s homestead. Afternoon at leisure

Early in the morning after your breakfast head to the park headquarters, the drive is approximately 15 minutes or you could choose to walk there. Attend the briefing, which lasts for about 15 minutes, listen to the rules and regulations from the ranger guides.
Proceed with your trek that normally lasts for over 3 hours or more basing on when you find the chimps.
As you get closer to the chimps, you hear them humming from a distance and this will need you to increase on your speed so that we do not miss out the chimps because they keep moving and going deeper into the forest.
 So many people cannot hide their excitement upon the first sight of the chimps as they swing from one tree to the other, showing off different poses. It is normal to be scared when you first get close to the chimps but all this is long forgotten because the chimps are so welcoming.
Spend 1 hour with the chimps as you take photos of the chimps as the ranger was give you more  information about the chimps like different families in Kibale forest, mating periods, ways of living, feeding etc.
After about an hour of remarkable experience with the chimps, exit the forest to the park for your certificate.
After your chimp trek in the morning that ends at approximately 1100hrs or 1200hrs, drive to Tinka’s homestead for a traditional meal. Tinka is among the founders of Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental Development (KAFRED) and he is a community leader in Bigodi community.
Tinka is kind enough to host people at his home to enjoy a traditional Ugandan meal served with a variety of local dishes in honour of culture, staple foods from different regions of the country and Tinka will explain the background information on the farming, harvesting, cooking methods and eating of the traditional foods served. What a cultural experience!
After the delicious meal, you can head back to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon.
Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Enjoy a Morning swamp walk and drive back to Entebbe International Airport for your departure international flight. End of services.
